i am going to ALA saturday with the baby, and sunday without him (he gets daddy time). maybe i will see some of you there...
is this thing on? i wouldn't be surprised if you all unfriended me in vox, since i haven't posted recently (until a few days ago, as a protected post). so, this is just a test.
What's the best music documentary or concert film you've seen?
don't know if this counts, but "a hard day's night" by the beatles.
and, we're okay here in the 805 area code -- the air quality is better, and the malibu fire is closer to being contained. i worry about the piru fire, but we shall see. the boys are still able to breathe, which is good.
my baby is big -- at 4 months, he weighs 17 pounds 4.5 ounces, and is in the 90-95th percentile for weight, height, and head measurement. he rolls over. he tries to eat my kisses. he has blue eyes still. he wears 9-12 month clothes, and enjoys sitting on daddy's shoulder like a parrot.
the big boy is doing great at reading, and has an awesome 1st grade teacher. he is in scouting, with dad as den leader (my moral quandary about the boy scouts remains, but oh, well). he is taking classes at church called our whole lives, which i hope will convince him to stop using the vulgar slang "nuts."
i have seen interesting job ads, but as much as i miss being in the adult world, i love my baby an awful lot and would miss him. but i also get tired of not having much in my life that is interesting to talk about, besides kids and school stuff. decisions...
bret michaels made the right choice, i still love "how i met your mother," and have enjoyed "reaper" so far. and yay, new "avatar!" i love tv. and OMG, peyton's birth mom! (i am watching "one tree hill" on soapnet).
will post a protected picture of the baby soon -- he is so cute and active, and has a beautiful smile!
normally, i have great disdain for the fauxhawk (my youth taught me that if you want a mohawk, you have to commit to it). but the elder boy got a too-short haircut (validating my dislike of supercuts) that, thanks to the length left on top, makes it look like he has a fauxhawk (especially with his hair rampantly erect). he said that he looked like the rockabilly guy on "guitar hero II," but i explained the difference between a pompadour and a fauxhawk.
maybe we'll spike it and dye it green...
Where do you consider home? Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living? Why is it home?
Submitted by uncagedbird.
i have to answer because i know who asked this...
my home is where i have the most memories, and where i feel the most like me. denver, where i was born and raised, is my first home. the chicago area, where i went after college with then-boyfriend-now-spouse, had my 1st child, got my first career, went to funerals, is my 2nd home. providence is kinda home, where i met some of my closest friends.
i currently don't feel like i'm home, even with a birth and a community of friends. i don't if/when i'll feel at home here. i still miss my old homes terribly.
haven't posted recently, i have been too busy with baby stuff during the day (and not getting on the computer at night, especially this last week, when the spouse kept doing system restores to it for whatever reason).
anyway, i am driving to san diego tomorrow for comic con, which i have never been to. i am guessing that it will be as big as wizard world chicago, if not bigger. i'm getting gen con vibes from it, so i shouldn't have a mental breakdown or anything.
griffin is coming with, and this will be his first con, but not his first intro to geekdom (he was with me at borders until 1am, sleeping in his sling while i got The Book; neither of us were dressed up, since nothing can beat the coolness of princeton, illinois' festival 9 3/4).
yes, i've read The Book. the spouse read it first so that i could read it at my leisure (which some see as a crime, seeing as i was the one on my feet standing in line with strangers petting my baby). i am now rereading it, with not so much of the rush to find out what happens. and i'm pondering over it.
i am psyched about The Simpsons Movie, and want to see Stardust (but i need to reread it so that i can see how much has been altered from the text).
help me, i am getting sucked into The OC and One Tree Hill on soapnet (it comes on after 90210, which is the only reason i would watch soapnet, honestly). can someone explain why lucas never knew who his dad was, but seemed to be pretty friendly with his uncle for a while? and does brooke do anything besides want to have sex and drink? peyton strikes me as a more fully developed character. (and whose house did seth et. a. break into the day before marissa got killed by that drunk driver guy?) you're probably going to refer me to TWOP, aren't you...
(oh, and griffin is now in 6 month clothing, and in the 90% for weight [and height too, i think] -- and he's just over 8 weeks old. and he gives beautiful smiles, and his eyes are getting bluer.)
What board game are you really good at? Really bad at?
i rawk at "settlers of catan," since i played the game when it was still a little-known german game with no english instructions (thanks to my hubby, that is no longer a problem).
but i suck at "monopoly." don't ask...
we found a game store yesterday. no. 1 son was amusing and said "bada-boom" after hubby and gamestore guy said "bada bing" and "bada bang." they had cheap-ass games in stock, as well as a good number of mayfair and rio grande games, which made me miss gencon.
my love for tivo is pure -- it gives me reruns of "how i met your mother" and saves "120 minutes" for me (since i am not usually up to watch it on vh1 classic). i forgot how much i loved the video for "the mayor of simpleton."
we have been catching up on the no. 1 son's pop culture education, with viewings of "superman: the animated series" and old "looney toons" cartoons. i love the first time that supes meets bats. and harley quinn is my weird twisted little idol.
tom is playing the harry potter game on the wii. cool to see the castle laid out like that.
no. 2 son has an ewok hat and bodysuit from the guys' visit to "celebration" back in may. gotta start them early (but no. 1 son is expressing an unhealthy interest in darth maul, which will sadly lead to us having to watch those three prequels, sigh).
the world series of pop culture starts soon on vh1. squee!
and hey -- lolgaimans!
What are three things you want to learn, and three things you can teach others to do?
Submitted by bookishbiker.
yay, bookishbiker!
i want to learn how to play guitar, how to snowboard, and how to be more patient with family (and more ruthless with annoying phone calls).
i can teach people how to flirt, how to trust your gut when it comes to jobs, and how to ad-lib while cooking.
